PLEASE READ, I NO LONGER OWN THIS VID-CAM I bought it and used it for ONE weekend and then sent it back, I now have the SONY DCR SR290E which I will get a comparison done soon, so PLEASE do not message me asking about the features of this as I wouldn’t know, thank you A couple of side by side videos showing the comparison between a MiniDV and a Digital Camdorder The first clip is from the MiniDV Sony DCR-HC27E and the second is from the Canon FS100, which stores the image on an SD Card Let me kow what you think…..

Don’t you think that this comparison is a little unfair jiffyman? I mean, you are comparing a Sony MiniDV camcorder and a Canon flash memory camcorder. Both of the camcorders should of been MiniDV or flash memory.
I will say that the Canon camcorder has better image and sound quality than the Sony camcorder. I like both Sony and Canon camcorders.

You can feel the movement of sound in the sony, BUT the picture of canon is better.

but miniDV are less reliable… because of vibrations etc. (for example on motorbike the SD recording is much better…)

here is what you do – open this video up in two windows. one you play from the start and in the other window cue the clip from where the cannon starts up… and then -you can see the difference.
actually i did have the sony hc27 for two years, it was brilliant. very sturdy and reliable….but i just got my cannon and it kicks serious arse!! i was always a fan of miniDVs but now SD cards rule ..cheers

Canon has better picture, the Sony one is more grainy and less defined. You should have stuck with Canon

The video quality sucks for both. Colors are washed out! Missing the clarity

Had the canon FS200 and returned it the next day. They both suck in picture quality. I got a kodak zi8 which shoots 720p and 1080p 60fps HD, and half the price. Standard def is out people, get with HD. I couldnt be happier with the Zi8, it is the top HD camera in its class and rivals most thousand dollar HD cameras aswell.
